... עומדים לעבור את סוקולקה. השארית הזאת התאספה ליד הגדרות שחסמו את המעבר לפסי הרכבת ודרך הבקיעים והסדקים הם התבוננו, כיצד אנשי עירם מובלים אי־לשם הצעקות והיללות של הנוסעים בעברם את סוקולקה פלחו את האויר וסימרו את השערות. כנראה שגם הנוסעים האומללים ידעו כי הם עוברים דרך עירם. אחדים מהם זרקו פתקאות בהן תיאנו את גורלם המר. הפתקאות הובאו על ידי ילדי הנוצרים ליהודי הגיטו תמורת תשלום כסף. פתקה אחת היתה של שלומקה שטיין — בו בקש את בתו בילקה שנשארה בגיטו, וגם נשארה בחיים, רק דבר אחד — נקמה. לא ידעו הגולים וכן לא ידעו הנשארים לאן הם הובלו. למידנק או לאושביץ? כן לא ידוע בדיוק את יום המתתם. איש לא נשאר מן המשלוח הגדול, אשר יספר דבר. לפי המשוער, הם הושמדו בתחילת ינואר 1943.
