... הקהלה. היד, פעיל מאד בקהלתו בענין שמירת שבת, ובכל יום
ששי לפני הדלקת הנרות היה רגיל ללכת בעצמו ברחובות העיר
ולהשגיח שינעלו בזמן את החנויות, ותודות להשפעתו הצטיינה
בנדין בכך שלא היתה בה חנות פתוחה בשבת. ואף־על־פי שלא
ידע פולנית היה מכובד בעיני השלטונות הפולניים, וביחוד אצל
הצבא, ועולה בידו לארגן מטבח כשר בשביל החיילים היהודים
בצבא פולין. במשך שנים רבות אסף כסף בהזדמנויות שונות אצל
אנשים שונים, והעמיד בקהלתו מקוה מודרנית ומשוכללת שהיתה
