ישבו על ספסלים מהופכים כביו ם תשעה־באב, והתאבלו כמו אחרי־מות אביהם. לאחר כמה ימים התחילו להשלים עם המציאות והגורל, שהרבי איננו חי יותר, ואי אפשר להיות בלי רבי. והיו צדדים שונים, מי בעד ר׳ שמואל־הירש אחי הצדיק המנוח, על אף חסרונותיו שהוא קפדן קצת וביחיד "נחבא אל הכלים", ומי בעד ר׳ מנדלי מביאלה שהיה יושב בסטריקוב. נתפלג הקלויז לשתי פלגות, וכל צד רצה להשפיע על השני בטוב או ברע. לבסוף גברו האלכסנדרים, ורוב הקלויז נשאר גם להב א חסידים נאמנים לאלכסנדר. ואכן, היה רבי שמואל־הירש רבי מתאים בכל המובנים, וכל שהכירו מקרוב ידע שהוא צדיק, קדוש וטהור. דברי תורתו היו מלאי אש. נהג בצדיקות עד שנת תרפ״ד שאז נפטר. ושוב רצו חסידי סטריקוב לעזוב את אלכסנדר ולעבור לסטריקוב, אך לא הצליחו. חסידי אלכסנדר גברו והמשיכו לנסוע לבנו של הצדיק המנוח, ר׳ יצחק־מנחם שניהל את הצדיקות כהלכה. חסידים רבים שלא נסעו ל״תפארת שמואל" חזרו לאלכסנדר לרבי האחרון. הוא היה פעיל יותר בשדה הפצת התורה והחסידות. וכה נוצרו בפולין — ואף בבנדין — ישיבות בשם "בית ישראל", על שם בעל "ישמח ישראל" מאלכסנדר. ...Connected nodes
