הוא לא רצה לשים עליו אצטלת אדמו״רות וביכר ארבע אמות
של הלכה על פני מנהיגות של עדת חסידים, ואחרי פטירת הרב י
הזקן מקוצק נוסע היה שבע שנים לגור ולאלכסנדר. ורק בלחץ
של מאות חסידים, רבנים וגדולי־התורה נכנע הגאון והסכים להיות
לאדמו״ר, והוקמה שושלת חדשה בתנועה החסידית, שושלת רבת־
פאר והוד שכונתה במשך הימים "שושלת סוכצ׳וב". סביב הצדיק
החדש נתרכזו בעיקר רבנים וגדולי־תורה, וגם חסידים פשוטים,
