באותו זמן כונסה אספה חשאית מטעם פועלי־ציון בבית־
המדרש של חסידי גור ("גערע ר שטיבעל"), שנמצא ברחוב צדדי.
בפתח בית־המדרש הופקדה שמירה, כדי להזהיר את המתכנסים
במקרה של בוא המשטרה. באמצע נאומו של האורח, שבא במיוחד
לאספה הזאת, הוא החבר יעקב קנר (ראה מאמרו בספר הזה —
המערכת) נשמעו דפיקות בדלת וקריאות ברוסית: לפתוח! נכבו
האורות והדלת נפרצה על־ידי המשטרה בכוח. הנאספים התחילו
