... בתולדות פולין ידועה יפה חמילניק, השוכנת על אם הדרך
המוליכה לקילץ ולבוסקו. כבר בשנת 1241 התחוללו
בםביבותיה קרבות עזים נגד הטטרים. למעשה שמשה מבצר
מפני פלישות הטטרים. בקרב נגד כנופױת הטטרים׳ בפיקודו
של באטוחאן ע״י חמילגיק בשנת 1247, הושמדו צבאות פולין
וכל החבל סנדומיז׳ —קראקא —װרצלאב נחרב. הם חדרו
עד סיאראדז, לנצ׳יץ, וםחבו אתם לשבי אלפי תושבים, בתוכם
גם יהודים משלזיה ופולין. סביבות אלו נשארו עשרות שנים
שוממות ורק בעזרת מתישבים מגרמניה הוקמו ישובים חדשים.
