עשר שנים התנהלה המחלוקת בין שני רבני חמילניק על
הרבנות בעיר׳ שהגדישה את הסאה, השנאה והסכםוכים בין
הצדדים לא ידעו גבול׳ וחלק גדול מהאוכלוםיה היהודית
התערב בתסבוכת מה שהגביר את החריפות והקטטות ביניהם.
עם מלחמת־דברים׳ ואין לדבר על חלול הקודש ובזױן שנגרם
כתוצאה מהוחדת ערך הרבנות. מתנגדי הרב אפשטין השתמשו
במלשינות אצל הרשות ופעם ואםר כחשוד בקומוניזם והובל
בלוית שוטרים לבית האםירים בפינטשוב, ודוקא באחד מימי
השבת׳ ורק אחרי מאמצים רבים שוחרר בערבות. ופעם אחת
כשהרב סײם את הדרשה בבית־המדרש ויצא החוצה הכה
