הגאון ז״ל שירת את קהילת חמילניק כרב אב בית הדין
ומרביץ תורה בערך ששים שנד״ רוב שנותױ היה דר
בדירה שכורד״ רהיטים וכלים יקרים לא נמצאו בביתו, אבל
ספריה גדולה בת כמה אלפים םפרים עתיקים וחשובים
כן היתה לו. חלק גדול מהם ירש הרב מאת אבױ ר׳ ישראל
לײב ומאת אבי־אבױ ר׳ ױחנן. בםפרױ השתמשו הוא ותלמידױ
וגם הדײנים של העיר — ר׳ לײביש דײן, ר׳ בערל דײן,
ר׳ יצחק־ישעיה ולאחרונה גם תלמידו ר׳ דוד־שמעון אריה׳ס.
אולם הרב לא הםתפק בםפריתו העשירה מורשת אבותױ,
הוא גם המשיך בקנײת ספרים חשובים, כל ימױ שגשג
