נוםף לבך נמצא בעײרה בית־המדרש של המגיד, מאחורי
בית־הכנסת, שבו היה המגיד מטיף בכל שבת אחרי הצהרים
לפני בעלי־מלאכה ומדריכם באמרי נועם. מתפללױ היו
אומנים פשוטים שהיו רחוקים מתורה מחמת דחקות. כאן
הױ לא רק מתפללים, אלא גם לומדים בעזרת המגיד
שנעשה לרבם. המגיד היה למדן, איש תורה ותרבות, וגם
דורש טוב לעמו, לא היה מתערב בעניני חוץ וחי נשלום
עם כל אחד. יסוד למודו היה דרך־ארץ׳ כי בעצמו היה
בעל דרך־ארץ גדול וגדול היה חפצו לנטוע דבר זה גם
בלב תלמידױ. השפעתו על האומנים היתה גדולה כהשפעת
