הפורעים המשיכו בהסתערויותיהם, וניסו לחדור
לתוך־העיר, אך בפקודת המועצה נסגרו בפניהם שערי
החומה. לפני שער הרובע היהודי בעיר ניצב ראש
מנזר הישועים לפי בקשת היהודים, כדי לעצור את
הסטודנטים מלעבור שמה, עד שהספיקו לסגור את
שער הרובע. האמצעים הללו כמעט שלא הועילו.
הסטודנטים לא פסקו לאיים מעל גגות הבתים הגובלים
עם הרובע היהודי, ואף החלו לפלוש משם פנימה.
כשגברה הסכנה, דרשה מועצת־העיר מן היהודים
כסף ובתוספת מכספי העיר גויסו מאה חיילים מזוינים.
היהודים לא הסתפקו בכך, ופנו למפקד הצבא הראשי,
סטניסלב פוטוצקי. בתחילת הפרעות בפרבר העיר,
שלח פוטוצקי ב־8 ביוני 1664 הודעה למועצת העיר,
שהפיקוד על לבוב ופרבריה נמסר לקצין התותחנים
? — פרדיננד וולף, ויש לעמוד לימינו. ע״פ פנית
היהודים, שלח פוטוצקי שתי פלוגות פרשים בפיקודו
של טרנבסקי. הוא מסר להם הוראה מפורשת שלא
יתאכסנו אצל יהודים, אלא רק בבתי נוצרים, בעיר
