... הרבנים יצאו נגדם ובראותם את הרס התורה
והמצוות התכנסו בלבוב, לפי הוראות ועד ד׳ ארצות,
בי״ז תמוז תפ״ב (1722), בבית־הכנסת הגדול שמחוץ־
לעיר. רב העיר והגליל, ר׳ יעקב יהושע בעל "פני יהושע",
יחד עם שבעה דייניו הכריז חרם בתקיעת שופר וכבו
נרות על החוטאים וכל העם עמד והקשיב ברעדה
לדברי הקללה "ותינוקות של בית רבן ענו אחריהם
אמן... וכמה וכמה פושעים חוטאים מכת הארורה הזאת
עמדו אתנו על הבימה וגם המה התודו על עוונם
בבכיה ובזעקה גדולה עד למרום ואמרו כזאת וכזאת
עשינו כפי נוסח הסידור שסידרנו ולאחר יציאה מבית
הכנסת י״ז תמוז הוכרחו לנהוג בעצמם דין אבלות
וגדוי שבעה ושלושים, כל דין מנודה ואבל זולת שאר
ענשים ונזיפות, אשר יצא מאתנו שבעה רבנים ואנא
