... להסתיר את מצבם, והיו הולכים לעבודתם אפילו בעת שאכלה הקדחת את גופם. לפעמים עלה לחולים כאלה להעלים בעזרת חבריהם את מחלתם מעיני השוטרים, והם הבריאו, למרות הכל. המועצה היהודית והועד לעזרת אסירי־ המחנה שע״י הקהילה השיגו בעמל רב, הודות למתנות שוחד רב, היתר מ־די שלטונות המחנה להעביר את החולים האנושיים לבית־החולים של הקהילה אשר בגיטו. הרופא הראשי ד״ר מקסימיליאן קורצ'וק ארגן מחלקה מיוחדת בשביל החולים האלה וטיפל בהם במסירות־נפש. ברם, הדבר לא נמשך זמן רב. אחרי האקציות הגדולות בסוף 1942 נתחסל בית־החולים של הקהילה. אז ארגנו הגרמנים "בית־חולים" במחנה. התנאים במרפאה היו פרימיטיביים. הוקצה לבית־ החולים צריף קרשים, בלתי־מוסק, ללא מכשירי־רפוי כל־שהם ובלי עזרה סניטרית. פעמיים בחודש התפרצו לבית־החולים שוטרי הס.ס. ברומבויאר ובירמן לשם עריכת מפקד בין החולים. בשעת המבחן היו בוחרים מן החולים האנושיים ביותר ומוציאים אותם להורג. החולים השתמטו בכל האפשר מבוא למקום מסוכן זה ...
