הירש, הוא הנודע בשם ספרו "פני יהושע", נכדו
של בעל "מגעי שלמה" ונקרא על שמו, נולד כ״ח
כסלו תמ״א (1681) בקרקא, בימי ילדותו גלה למקומות
של תורה למד בישיבות שונות ושמו יצא למרחוק.
התחתן עם בת הראש ומנהיג קהלת לביב ר׳ שלמה
סגל לגדא, והשתקע בלבוב, בה הרביץ תורה עם
תלמידים הגונים והתחיל לרשום בספר חדושיו
למסכתות, בהיותו מכובד ונערץ על כל בני העיר
