שמואל יעקב אימבר נאלץ לעזוב את לבוב בעוד
בימי הרוסים, כי הלשינו עליו שאין שירתו "כשרה"
מנקודת־ראות מארקסיסטית. הוא התיישב בעיירה
הקטנה יזירנא אצל הורי אשתו, ומשם עבר לעיר
זלוצ׳וב לבית גיסו ד״ר הרצ׳ניק שהיה מנהל בית־
החולים היהודי. אימבר המשיך בעבודתו הספרותית
והיה מדרכו לקרוא את חיבוריו בפני קהל עובדי־
המרפאה והחולים. בשעת האקציה ב־3 לנובמבר 1942
נתפס המשורר ונשלח אל מחנה ההשמדה בבלז׳ץ. רעיו
וחבריו שמרו על עזבונו הספרותי עד אשר הוכרתו
