האגודה הקיימה מועדון, ובו ספריה במדעי היהדות וגם עתונות בעברית ובלועזית. במועדון היו מתאספים עורכי־דין, רופאים, סוחרים משכילים וגם תורניים לקריאת עתונים, לשמיעת הרצאות ולוויכוחים בבעיות היהדות. נשיא־האגודה הראשון היה ד״ר פיליפ מאנש. שבועון האגודה, "דער איזראעליט", בלשון הגרמנית ובאותיות עבריות בתחילה, ואח״כ נדפס גם בכתב גרמני, הופיע בעריכתו של יעקב קליין. בין פעילי האגודה היה עורך־דין צעיר, ד״ר אמיל ביק (1845 — 1908), שמוצאו היה מיאנוב והוא הכניס ל״שומר־ ישראל" את הכיוון הצנטרליסטי האנטי־פולני. ...
