הניה, נבט בלבי והחל לצמוח. הכמיהה למעשים פורצת כל סייג
ומכשול. אותו קיץ הגיעה לכפר הסמוך לעיירתנו, ציגאן, קבוצת
חלוצים ראשונה להכשרה חקלאית. אני הייתי ממבקריה
הקבועים של הקבוצה מדי שבת בשבתו, מקשיב בעניין לשיחותיהם
על בניין ארץ־ישראל המתחדשת, בניין העם היהודי וקיבוץ
גלויותיו בארץ, הקמת חברת עובדים ומגשימים על יסודות צדק
ושויון, ע״י כוחות בונים ויוצרים. הולכת ונוצרת תנועה גדולה
ורחבה למען בניין הארץ ואף בעיירתנו "מתחילים הענינים לזוז".
זרם הפליטים היהודים מרוסיה הבולשביסטית הביא לסקאלה
צעירים רבים, מהם ציונים נלהבים וצמאי־מעש. נוצר קשר נפשי
ורעיוני ביניהם ובין הציונים המקומיים, ומיד ניגשים לפעולות של
ממש: אירגון הנוער המקומי והקמת סניף ה״חלוץ". הנני מראשוני
המצטרפים, אם כי הצעיר ביניהם, שש לכל מעשה שיש בו משום
