בורנשטיין נבהלה ולא חיכתה. בעת הביקור השני אצל לוינשטיין
סיפרה בפשטות שלא חיכתה, היות וראתה, שהאנשים איבדו עשתו -
נותיהם... על חוצפתה לאמר, שאנשי היודנראט נתבלבלו בעת
ביקורו של דרייאר, זרקה לוינשטיין ממשרדו ולא רצה לטפל בנייר ד
תיה. כל זה שמעתי מפיה בעת ביקורה אצלי בבית הסוהר. ועתה,
בהיותי אצלו, חשבתי לנכון לנגוע בפרשה זו. לוינשטיין אישר
את דברי האשה, אבל בתעודותיה החליט לא לטפל, למען ישמש
הדבר לקח ל״חוצפה היהודית", ואף שהשתדל, כפי שכבר הזכרתי,
לעורר רושם של "מציל" ו״מושיע", לא יכול היה להתגבר על
הרגשת הגדלות החולנית ו״לסלוח" לאשה האומללה את החטא
