היה גדול בתורה ובחכמה, בקי בש״ם ופוסקים, והצטיין
בדביקותו ביהדות ובאהבתו לעמו. לא היה קנאי בדעותיו בעניני
דת, חביב על המוני העם. רבים התדפקו על דלתות ביתו בבקשת
