... בתום החגיגות נגשנו לפעולה המעשית. הוכנה מראש רשימת
תורמים, שהתחייבו במכסות, כל אחד לפי יכולתו ומעמדו. המתרי--
מים נתקבלו בהבנה ובאהדה. לא היו משתמטים. אדרבא, ידועים
מקרים, שפנו יהודים מדלת־העם, שלא נכללו ברשימה, תרומותיהם
הצנועות בידיהם. אחרים העלו מרצונם הטוב המכסה המוטלת
עליהם. הנדבן שמעון פירסטנברג, חבר הסוכנות היהודית
בפולין, הכריז שיתרום את החלק העשירי בבחינת "מעשר" מהסכום
הכללי שייאסף, ובכך נתן דחיפה ועידוד לעוסקים בדבר. המגבית
עלתה על המשוער ושימשה דוגמה ומופת לקהילות הסמוכות —
סוסנוביץ ודומברובה. יד להצלחת המפעל נתנו גם שני עסקנים
חשובים של קרן היסוד בפולין, שמשון דוד ירושלמי (ירו־
זלימסקי) ויעקב גורלי (גוז׳לקו), עוסקים בצרכי ציבור
בישראל. בעיר נאסף אז סכום של חמישה עשר אלף דולר, הישג
נכבד ביותר לפי התנאים והמושגים של הזמן ההוא. ...Connected nodes
