היו נרות מן המוכן. אך לפני כחמישים שנה, היו מתקינות נרות אשה אשה בביתה, וכה סיפרה
לי סבתא: בעשרת ימי תשובה היו לוקחים פתילים מכותנה ונוסעים לבית-הקברות, ושם היו
הולכים לקבריהם של קרובי המשפחה ומזמינות אותם לקחת חלק בהכנת הנר. זה נקרא ,ציען
אַ קנייטל". הבכי והצעקות שהיו מלווים את התחינה המיוחדת שחוברה לשם כך, הבקיעו שחקים.
את כל הפתילים היו לוקחות הביתה, מחממות שעוה ומכניסות לתוכו כל פתיל ופתיל, לנשמת
כל קרובי המשפחה שהוזמנו בבית-הקברות. מכל הפתילים האלה היו קולעות נר נשמה אחד --
