אבי זיל רצה מאוד שאעזוב את הורודוק ומשלא יכל להביע לפני את רצונו, חזר על כך בפני חברי כמה פעמים. לא קל היה לבוא במגע עם כמה מן החברים, משום שאי-אפשר היה לגלות זאת לשום איש. החבורה הראשונה, שמנתה 4 אנשים -- יוסף בן משה ברוכין, אברהם גורביץ זאב רונקין ואנכי, יצאה לעבר רומניה דרך רובנה ולבוב, ונאלצה לחזור מאין מעבר. בפעם השניה יצאנו לעבר וילנה. משהגענו לאיישישוק, נאמר לנו כי מוילנה מחזירים את הבאים למקומם וחזרנו. האוירה היתה דחוסה מאד, והחלטתי לעזוב את הורודוק בכל מחיר. ...
