אנשי משפחת מורבטשיק ניהלו אורח חיים מיוחד במינו -- ספק איכרים, ספק סוחרים.
קיומם היה על גננות (על-ידי עבודה עצמית), עבודת דיג, גידול בקר ומסחר ביערות וחמרי עץ.
הם היו מעבירים אל חופי הנהר עצי הסקה ומוכרים אותם לידי חברות של ספינות-קיטור -- או
שהיו שולחים, על-ידי ספינות-המשא, עצי הסקה לקיוב. היו מספקים צרכי מזון לפועלים בספינות-
הקיטור, הרפסודות והבארלינות שעברו את נירטשה. כן היו מספקים צרכי מזון לנוסעי ספינות-
קיטור להסעת אנשים. תושבי נירטשה היוו טיפוס בריא של איש העם. הודות לקשר היומיומי
עם דוד-הורודוק לא נשארו כפריים חסרי דעת ועמי הארצות. את ילדיהם לימדו תורה
