... אזרחית -- היתה הציונות שלנו, כאמור, ציונות טהורה של הרצל, אף שלא קראנו לה כללית. ידיעות מן הארץ על מאבק הפועלים בה לעבודה עברית -- עדיין לא הגיעו אלינו. ידענו שציונות בגולה משמעותה: שקל לקונגרס, שפה עברית וכספים לקרן הלאומית -- נאציאנאל פאנד --- הקרן הקימת. מושגינו על העתיד אף הם מעורפלים היו וזכור לטוב אחד מנכבדי העיירה, שאחרי אחת האסיפות הציוניות פקח לגו עינים בכך. היה זה בייציל -- בצלאל -- יודוביץ. הוא פנה אלינו, הצעירים, בזו הלשון: מה אתם מסתפקים בפרוטות, לבנין הארץ ולהקמת מדינה דרושים סכומים גדולים ולא כאלה שאתם תובעים מאתנו. ולא כאדם מן הצד אמר את דבריו, אלא כאיש שלבו קרוב לרעיון ומוכן לתת גם את ידו להגשמתו. דבריו הפליאונו אז. נראה, שהוא היה קרוב למקורות יותר מאתנו, הצעירים בימים ההם. יצחק עידן.
