... עד למלחמת-העולם הראשונה שקטה העיירה על שמריה, כרוב עיירות ישראל. בימי
המלחמה עברו פליטים רבים דרך העיר ונתמכו בעין יפה ע"י יהודיה. אחד מהם, הרב רבינסקי,
אף שימש בה ברבנות. אחרי המלחמה, בימי האוקראינים, היו גם גרמנים בעיירה והם הפילו
את אחד מקרבנותיה הראשונים: זאב זגר (וועלוועל דער שמיד). |בהשכמת הבוקר. כשהלך
להתפלל, צעקו אליו חיילי המשמר: עמוד! הוא לא הבין את שפתם והם דקרוהו עד שמת.
בימי הבולשביקים נרצח בצלאל יודוביץ (1919 ?). בסוף אותה שנה נרצח ליבל קרפיבקה ע"י
הפולנים. מספר קרבנותיה של ד.-הורודוק בימי בלחוביץ היה קטן בהשוואה לעיירות אחרות,
