בשנת 1704 העמידו השבדים עמוד־תליה, ופרגסי
הקהל היו צפויים לתליה עד שהסלים, שהועמדו מתחת
לעמוד, נתמלאו זהב וכסף שהובאו ע״י היהודים. בית־
הכנסת הוקם בשנת 1582 ע״י ר׳ יצחק בן נחמן, ראש
הקהל ויו״ר ״ועד ארבע ארצות״ בלובלין בשנת 1589.
בשנת 1594 הוסיפו לבנין עזרת נשים. בית הכנסת נבנה
בסגנון גוטי ע״י האדריכל פאול האיטלקי, שבנה גם את
הכנסיה וולווסקא ברחוב רוסקא. יש לבית־הכנסת ספור
מיוחד: בשנת 1603 העניק המלך זיגמוגט וו ו את המגרשים
וכל השטח למיסדר הישועיים. אחרי דיונים ומשפטים
הוכרחו היהודים למסור את בית־הכנסת וכל סביבותיו,
כמעט את כל רחוב היהודים, לישועיים. אולם הכניסה לבית־
הכנסת היתה רק דרך ביתו של מרדכי בן יצחק, והוא לא
הרשה את המעבר. הישועיים היו מוכרחים לוותר והחזירו
ליהודים את בית־הכנסת עם כל הבתים מסביב. ...Connected nodes
