... אך הן נדחו מפני החשש שבהשפעת חוכרי מס הנרות
יכשלו המועמדים בבחירות, ונראה שגם השלטינות,
שלא היו מתערבים במאבק שבין המשכילים יהאדוקים,
המתנגדים והחסידים, לא רצו באנשי חוכרי־המ ס בועד־
הקהלה, והעדיפו להתחשב בכוחות האינטליגנציה
היהודית. לפיכך מינו השלטונות מבלי לערוך בחירות,
בשנת 1842, בתוקף הפקודה, ועד־קהלה חדש בו
השתתפו: ד״ר עמנואל בלומנפלד, ד״ד אוסבלד מנקס,
ד״ד אברהם ברדח־רפפורט, מרקוס דובס, יצחק אהרן
