בזמן המצור בשנת ת״ח השתתפו היהודים בפועל
בהגנת העיר. השתדלן שמעון סיפק כלי־זין והיהודים
שמרו יחד עם הארמנים על השטח משער הכרמליטים עד
המצודה בקרבת ננסית הברנדינים, וגם על הכנסיה הרותינית.
הם השתתפו יחד עם התותחנים גם בהתקפת־מחץ נגד
