בראשית 1943 חלושינויים מרחיקי־לכת בסדרי
ההגיטו. על סמך פקודתו של המיניסטר היינריך
הימלר — מפקד הראשי של הבולשת והס.ס. —
רצו הגרמנים במשך שנת 1943, להפוך את הגיטאות
שנותרו עוד — למחנותעבודה פקודה כזאת ניתנה,
למשל, למפקדה הגרמנית בווארשה באביב 1943;
בליצמנשטדט־לודז — בספטמבר 1943׳ וכר. בלבוב
חל השינוי במוקדם, אחרי האקציה של ינואר 1943.
במקום "גיטו" נקרא מעתה האזור היהודי "מחנה
היהודים" — "יודענלאגער", ובקיצור — "יו־לאג".
סדרי־החיים ב״יו־לאג" היו שונים מאשר בגיטו.
הגרמנים החדירו בו משמעת צבאית חמורה. חוסל
חלק גדול מן הגיטו הישן׳ וכל היהודים העובדים
הועברו לבתי־הקסרקטין. רחובות אחרים — ב׳ניהם
רחוב ז׳רודלאנא ופרבר קליפרוב — הוצאו לגמרי
מתחומי הגיטו. חוסלה כליל המועצה היהודית (ראש
המועצה האחרון, פייל(116? ) היה חסר השפעה
בחיי הציבוריים היהודיים ולא היה במקומה מוסד
המרכז את יהודי הגיטו במסגרת ציבורית אחת. על
כל פלוגתיעבודה היו מעתה ממונים מטעם הגרמנים׳
אשד כונו "זקני היהודים" ("אבעריודעך), משרה
שלא היו בה׳ כמובן, כל סמכויות של שלטוןעצמי.
