גם על המשומדים. במאמר בשם "שכחו את מוצאם"
שהופיע בעיתון הפולני "גאזטה לבובסקא" ב־22 באוק-
טובר 1941, הובעה הדעה, שגם המשומדים חייבים
לענוד את הסרט הלבן, וכן כל נוצרי ונוצריה
הקשורים ליהודים ע״י נישואין. נראה, שבתקופה
הראשונה לפלישת הגרמנים סברו מתבוללים רבים
בתמימותם שהשמד יצילם מגזירות על היהודים (תהלי ך
המוני דומה היה בסלובקיה והונגריה). לפי ידיעה
ב״גאזטה לבובסקא" ב־8.11.1941 היה בחודש ספטמבר
1942 מספר היהודים המוכנים להתנצר — כ־4000
איש. אע״פ שאין להאמין בידיעות של עיתון זה,
שמגמתו היתה להוקיע את היהודים והמשומדים גם
יחד, יש להניח כי מספר המועמדים לשמד היה רב
למדי, וראיה לדבר, שמשרד ההגמון הקתולי בלבוב
סידר בשבילם הרצאות מיוחדות וקבע תקופת־נסיון
של 6 חדשים למועמדים אלה. בשטח השמד היה
פעיל, במיוחד, כומר אחד בכנסית וינצנט־הקדוש, א
פאולו׳ והעתון "גאזטה לבובסקא" יצא בהתקפה עזה עליו
(בגליונות מה־9 וה־11 לנובמבר 1941). אולם, לא
עבר זמן רב, והמשומדים והמועמדים־לשמד למדו
לדעת, כי לא בזאת יוושעו. החוקים הגרמניים שהגדירו
בדיוק את המושג ,.יהודי" יסודם בנקודת־השקפה של
הגזע ולא של הדת, והמשומדים נכנסו גם הם למעגל
הגזירות. רק חלק מועט מהם, שקרובים וידידים
נוצרם להם, הוחבאו או השיגו ניירות ,.אריים"
