שעה" במקום ולהתערות בחיי הקהילה ובחברה והוא נעתר
לבקשתם. וכך עזר הרבה בהקמת "בית עם", בשיפור בית הספר
העברי ובהעלאת סדר ושיטת הלימודים לרמה ניכרת. הרבה
תלמידים ותלמידות העמיד ר׳ חיים, ואלה חיבבוהו והעריצוהו
בשל סגולות התרומיות שלו. הוא שתל בליבותיהם אהבת השפה
העברית, אהבת עם ישראל וארץ ישראל. כמה וכמה מהם, אכן,
עלו ארצה כחלוצים תחת השפעתו הישירה. מקובל ומכובד היה ר׳
חיים רויז על בני העיר מכל השכבות בשל אישיותו הנלבבת
