... הודות ליוזמתם ולמסירותם הרבה של מנהיגי התנועות הציוניות המקומיות הוקמו קופת גמילות חסדים ובנק עממי להלוואות, שקרן היסוד שלו נתקבלה מה״ג׳וינט". האנשים האלה היו ישראל לייב פרייפלדר, מרדכי(מוטי) ויידברג ובנציון פידרר. (שני הראשונים נספו בשואה ואילו ב״צ פידרר עלה ארצה לפני המלחמה ונפטר פה בשיבה טובה). ברכה מרובה, ובמקרים רבים הצלה ממש, הביאו פעולות אלה למאות נצרכים במצוקתם. ברוח זו פעלה גם אגודת "יד חרוצים", שהושיטה עזרה לחולים בתמיכה כספית צנועה ובארגון משמרות לילה ליד מיטותיהם. יו״ר אגודה זו במשך שנים היה שמעיה לחמן ולאחר פטירתו בשנת 930 ירש מקומו חיים מייזלמן(נספה בשואה). ...
