... במסעותיו מגיע פרץ לבנדין, בחורף 1913, לפי הזמנת "הזמיר", האגודה הבלתי־מפלגתית היחידה בשנים ההן בעירנו להפצת תרבות ומדע, מוסיקה ושירה. עירנו היתה ברובה דתית, אך היו בה חוגים משכילים, שנתפסו לתחיה הלאומית. פרץ בא במיוחד לפתיחת הספריה על שם "שלום עליכם" (השם ניתן אחרי מות הסופר), שהיתה קיימת בבנדין עד בוא השואה ונחשבה כאחת החשובות ביותר בעיר.
