... נולד בשנת תקס״ב בכפר הסמוך לבנדין, וכבן־כפר של ט
בשפת פולין והיה משתמש בה לפעמים בבדיחותיו. למד תורה
מפי הגאון ר' דוד דייטש זצ״ל בהונגריה. אחרי נשואיו פתח חנות
למוצרי ברזל בבנדין. היה זה בית־המסחר הראשון מסוגו בעיר.
בגדין היתה אז כפופה בעניני מסחר לעיירה טשאלאדז׳, שהיתה
שוכנת אז (עד 1918) ליד הגבול הגרמני. משנתפתחה התעשיה
הכבדה בסביבת בגדי ן ובראשה "מפעלי הוטא באנקאווא", מפעלי
הולדשינסקי ועוד — התפתחה גם העיר בנדין ועלתה על טשאלאדז/
ועם התעשיה נתפתח המסחר ונפתחו בתי־מסחר חשובים בידי
