... ברם, ר׳ קלמן נשאר קופא על שמריו. הוא לא אץ להתעשר והתבטא בפירוש שאיננו רוצה להשאיר רכוש לבניו, כדי שלא להרבות מחלוקת ביניהם. ישב בחנותו ועסק במגבית מעות א״י יחד עם ר׳ נחמן בייטנר שהיה הגבאי, ומדי שבוע בשבוע היה נוסע לירידים שבעיירות שיעווער וסלאבקוב, סר מפעם לפעם גם ל״תפארת שלמה" והיה לאחד מחסידיו המסורים ולב בכל לב ונפש. היה גם מוהל, ולמטרה זו היה נוסע לכפרים ולן בהם.
