העיירה הוקפה בכ־150 ז׳נדארמים, אנשי ה״שופו״
וה״קריפו״, שוטרים אוקראיניים — ובראש כולם קלנר עם עוד 3־
4 אנשי "גסטאפו". משנכנסו העירה כינס קלנר את ה״יודנראט"
ואת ה״אורדנונגסדינסט", ציווה עליהם להתלוות למבצעי הפעולה
ולפקח על איסוף הריהוט וכל המטלטלים שבדירות הנפרצות
והמתרוקנות מדייריהם. העיירה נסרקה בקפדנות ובדייקנות
אכזרית מקצה עד קצה. דלתות נפרצו בהלמות מוטות וגרזנים, כל
בית נסרק מהמרתף עד עליית־הגג, בחיפושים מדויקים
ובמומחיות של כלבי־ציד בדמות בני־אדם. נתגלו בונקרים
מוסווים היטב ובהם עשרות אנשים שהוצאו משם במכות רצח
והובלו אל קסרקטין משמר הגבול הפולני לשעבר, שהיה מוקף
גדר־תיל. (גידור זה נעשה על ידי הנאצים עוד באביב של השנה והם
הפיצו שמועה כי מכינים מחנה לשבויים, או לפועלים
צרפתיים . . .). הצוותים המחפשים והפורצים לוו על ידי אכרים
אוקראיניים שגויסו במהירות הבזק עם עגלותיהם, רוקנו את
הדירות והובילו את הרכוש השדוד אל מחסנים מאולתרים —
