באחת מישיבותיה ועשה חיל בלימודיו עד להפליא. הוריו
שלחוהו אחר־כך לווילנא לבית המדרש לרבנים. לאחר
שגמר שם לימודיו שב לעיירת מולדתו סוקולקה ונתמנה
בה רב־מטעם הממשלה. גם בנובוהורודק פעל ויסד בית־
