שאיפה עזה היתה לו לאברשה אולשנסקי, מנהל בית-הספר העממי תרבות בדויד-הורודוק,
שתלמידיו ידברו עברית בחיי יום"יום ולא בבית-הספר בלב:?. לא קלה היתה המשימה שהטיף
לה השכם והערב. ודרכים שונות מצא להשפיע על בני דויד-הורודוק: דרך משל המורה לעברית
הבטיח חגיגית, שכל תלמיד אשר ידבר עברית מחוץ לכתלי ביה"ס -- יקבל העלאה בציון כלומר,
תלמיד שהיה ראוי לציון ,מספיק" יקבל ,טוב", והראוי ,לטוב" יקבל ,טוב מאוד". אך כל
הפתויים, הבקשות וההרצאות לא הועילו: ולא מחמת סירובם של התלמידים, כי אם מחמת הסביבה
אשר בה חיו. בתנועות הנוער של ,השומר הצעיר". ,השומר הלאומי", ,בית"ר* וכולו? נערכו
הפעולות והפגישות בעברית : אולם בבית, בחנות המכולת, ובכל מקום, אשר בו היה צריך להפגש
עם מבוגרים ולא עם נוער -- היה הדבר בלתי-אפשרי כמעט. וכי כיצד נגשים אל אמא ומדברים
אתה עברית על אוכל, בגדים וכיו"ב ? דומה היה הדבר כאילו דיברת אתה סינית. לגבי הגברים
היה זה קל יותר, חלקם הבינו ולא דיברו, חלקם דברו קצת, ואותם ששלטו בעברית היו מעטים
ובעזרת ידים ורגלים אפשר היה ,להסתדר*. לגבי הנשים היתה המשימה קשה ביותר.Connected nodes
