יערות וחומרי עץ. במחצית השנייה של המאה ה-19 התחיל להתגבש מעמד של סוחרים בחמרי
יער ועצים וכן ,אנשי מים"?. סוחרי היערות בדוד-הורודוק, מלבד מתי מספר, לא היו עשירים
מופלגים, אולם, בכל זאת, הם ו,אנשי המים" היוו מעמד סוחרים די ניכר. המסחר ביערות לא היה
דבר של מה בכך. דרושה היתה בקיאות רבה וידיעה מקצועית. בקניית החומר הגלמי מן היער
