פניו. היה שמח, כאשר יכול היה לעזור בפועל ממש, להדריך בעצה טובה.
עם עלייתו לארץ בראשית מלחמת-העולם נכנס למחלקת העליה של הסוכנות-היהודית ;
תחילה בחיפה ואחר-כך -- בירושלים, בתפקידים אחראיים. עבד בהתמסרות כל הכוחות, כי
בעבודתו זו ראה שליחות חייו, היתה לו עין פקוחה וראה הרבה דברים, ביניהם כאלה שדכאו
מאד את רוחו. אך הוא לא היה איש מלחמה. לא ידע להיאבק בתוקף, לא בעניני צבור ולא
בעניניו האישיים. ידע רק לשפוך את מר לבו באזני חברים וידידים.
כשנודע לרבים מידידיו, כי יהודה חלה במחלת לב -- הופתעו: יהודה השקט, בעל
מזג-טוב כמוהו, איש שאינו מסוגל לכאורה להתרגז ו,אינו יוצא מכליו" אף פעם -- מה לו
ולמחלת לב? ואולי דוקא משום כך, משום שהחניק עמוק-עמוק בלב את הכאב, נפגם לבו,
נשרף קמעא-קמעא.
