בשנת 1569 חל מפנה ביחסים בין פולין לליטא. באותה שנה הוחלט בסיים הלובליני לייסד
אוניה פוליטית בין פולין וליטא. להחלטה הזאת היתה השפעה מכרעת בחדירת הרוח הפולנית
לסביבת ליטה כולה. התרבות הפולנית ובעיקר הקלר הקאטולי -- החלו לחדור לאותה סביבה.
תפקידם היה כפול: להדביק בפולוניזציה את הסביבה הרוסית, ויחד עם זאת לקרבה לדת
