היהודים, הן הנוצרים". מעניין שבראשית התפשטות
התנועה בפולין, הושפעו ממנה דוקא רבים מבין טובי
וראשֵי הצבור היהודי. אחד הראשונים שיצאו לקושטא,
היה ר׳ ברכיה־בירך שפירא, בעמ״ח ."זרע בירך",
קרובו ויורשו של "מגיד מישרים" בקרקא, ר׳ נתן שפירא
בעמ״ח "מגלה עמוקות". הוא שלח משם ידיעות
מפורטות על התגלותו של שבתי־צבי. אחרי מותו
(1666) בקושטא, התקשר הרב מקרקא, ר׳ אריה־ליב בן
זכריה מנדל (בעמ״ח "תיקוני תשובה" באידיש), עם
אנשי ה״משיח" והפיץ את כתבי נתן העזתי. כעבור
זמן מה התחילו להגיע לפולין מכתבים וכרוזים שסיפרו
את הנסים והנפלאות, שעשה שבתי־צבי לעיני כל
ישראל. גם בלבוב נפוצו השמועות, על ה״משיח",
והשפעתן היתה כה גדולה, עד כי הרב, ר׳ דוד הלוי,
בעל ״טורי זהב״, שלח לקושטא (פורים 1666) את
בנו ר׳ ישעיהו ואת בנו־חורגו, ר׳ אריה ליב בן צבי־
הירש, הרב בקומארנו, לתת שבח והודיה לשבתי־צבי. ...Connected nodes
