... חמילניק היתה עײרה עתיקד״ אבל קטנד״ ואי אפשר היה למצוא בה אולפנים למוםיקד״ לא תיאטרון ובית־אופירד״ ובתקופה שטרם הומצאו הגרמופון והרדױ בטח השתעממו אזרחיה ונפשם יצאה לתענוגות. ואילו האוכלוסיה היהודית בחמילניק ידעה להפיק תועלת גם מהחיבה לחזנות ולנגינה בחתוגות ומםיבות־שמחד״ ומכאן החיבה לחזן ולכלי־זמרים שקבעו מושבם געיר. אנשים ױתר אמידים לא הםתפקו ב״יש״ המקומי והױ מביאים כלי־זמרים גם מקילץ. ומלבד בדחן העיר ר׳ ױםלי היה מופיע בשערי העירה גם טוביה בדחן מםטאשוב שהיה אז לשם־דבר. והיה מי שמצא קשר ישר בין חובבי הנגינה בחמילניק לבין הלויים שעמדו על הדוכן בבית המקדש בירושלים בירת יהודה וישראל, כי יהודי חמלגיק הױ מביני־גגן, ולא כל חזן הפיק רצון בעיניהם•
