... בימי השלטון הסובייטי הגדילה את האוכלוסיה
האוקראינית . היטב זכרו עוד האוקראינים את הרדיפות
והנגישות של השלטון הפולני לפני 1939 ׳ והמדיניות
הגרמנית הצליחה להגביר את שנאתם לפולנים . גם
בתוך המחתרת בלבוב היה הרוב המכריע למפלגות
הימניות , שדחו כל שיתוף פעולה עם היהודים . לפיכך
אפשר היה ליהודים ׳ לבוא במשא־ומתן רק עם ארגוני
המחתרת הפולנית מן המחנה הדימוקראטי או השמאלי ,
שכוחם בגליציה המזרחית היה מעט מאד . המחתרת
האוקראינית ארגנה קבוצות פרטיזניות בגליציה
המזרחית ׳ אך רובן השתייכו למחנה סטיפן באנדרה ,
וניהלו מלחמה נגד הגרמנים , הפולנים והיהודים כאחד .
במשך השנים 1942 — 1943 חיסלו הלאומנים הקיצונים
של מחנה באנדרה ("באנדערובצי") את שאר הקבוצות
הפרטיזניות האוקראיניות שהיו ליברליות או
דימוקרטיות יותר . (למשל — את קבוצת בולבה ,
