למחרת התחיל לעבור בעיר הצבא הרוסי שנסיג מן החזית, עייפים, ישבורי ם ורצוצים, בורחים מנוסת בהלה, לא בסדר צבאי. ערב־רב. הרחובות והדרכים מלאים חיילים רעבים, קרועים ובלויים, יחפים בלי נעלים, תלבושתם ססגונית, חובשי מגבעות, "קפוטעס", ואפילו צילינדרים על ראשיהם, ומבקשים לחם ומים, הצבא הרוסי נסוג לעבר גרודנה והעיר נשארה "ריקה" מצבאה. מדי פעם הופיעו פלוגות סיור, רוכבים, פעם רוסים, פעם פולנים ששדדו שוב מכל הבא ליד. בפחד כניסת הצבא הפולני הסתתרו היהודים בבתים, במרתפים ועל הגגות. אימה ופחד אחזה את הישוב היהודי. לפנות בוקר נכנס הצבא הפולני, החיילים ירו מרוביהם ורצו לאורך הרחוב, סמוך לבתים, פרצו חנויות, דפקו על דלתות, הם פרצו לתוך הבתים ושדדו מכל הבא ליד. ...Source passage 4

3. כבוש סוקולקה על ידי הצבא הגרמני
ב-1915 נכבשה סוקולקה בידי הצבא הגרמני שהתקדם
בשלשה ראשים. גוש אחד נכנס לעיר דרך רחוב ביאליסטוק, גוש שני התקדם אל פסי הרכבת וגוש שלישי
ליד בית-הקברות היהודי. כל העיר נתנה שבח והודיה
לאל שהתפטרו מן הקוזאקים הרוסים, הרוצחים, האנשים
