בתוך הנוף המרהיב הזה שזורה סקאלה, על מרכז העיירתי הטיפוסי ועל פרבריה הכפריים, העוטרים אותה מצפון, ממערב ומדרום. העיירה בנויה על גבעה רמה שמורדותיה משתפלים בתלילות מזרחה, לעמק הנהר זברוץ׳, ומערבה לתוך הערוץ הצר, כמעט קניון, של נחל בלי שם סתם "פוטיק". השלוחה הצפונית של הגבעה היא צוק מרשים מחודד מוגן על ידי עמק הנהר וערוץ הנחל. עליו מתנוססות חורבות המבצר, בעל העבר ההיסטורי רב־החשיבות בתולדות פולין מעבר לשלוחת המבצר וערוץ הנחל משתרעת "סקאלה הישנה"(סטארא סקאלא) שאותה חוצה כביש עפר, המוביל צפונה להוסיאטין וצפונה־מערבה לצ׳ורטקוב, ואילו מערבה מהנחל שוכן הפרבר הכפרי זאפוטוצ׳ה. ...Source passage 2
