... מתחילת ישיבתו בוארשה התקרב י. יפת לתנועת "תורה ועבודה" והמזרחי. כאן מצא כר נרחב לעבודת תרבות וחינוך ברוח הציונות, העבודה שאליה היה קשור. במשך כל שנות ישיבתו בוארשה היה יהודה חבר פעיל במוסדותיה העליונים של תנועת תורה ועבודה ואף היה ציר לקונגרס הציוני בג׳ניבה לפני פרח המלחמה העולמית (תרצ״ט) ולועידותיה העולמיות של הסתדרות המזרחי.
