עוד בשנות נעורי, טרם עלה בדעתי לעסוק בספרות החסידות והנגינה וכיוצא בזה, הגיע אלי שמעו של ר׳ יחזקאל פרידמן מבנדין. שמעתי עליו סיפורים שצלצלו כאגדות, על חושו הגדול לנגינה, על מאות ניגוני רדומסק השגורים בפיו, מהם ניגונים רבים ששרו במסיבות ה״תפארת שלמה" בשעתו ברדומסק, על שיחו ושיגו עם בעלי מסיבות חסידיות ושל שמחות מצוד, והופעתו החגיגית בכל מקום. ולא אחת נקלעו לביתנו מחסידי רדומסק וסיפרו לנו בהתלהבות על עולם הנגינה הרחב של ה״תפארת שלמה" ומקורביו, ואזנינו הקשיבו ברצון ובשמחה לחיל הרב שעשתה רדומסק החסידית בנגינה. על אף תשוקתי הגדולה להכיר פעם את החסיד המוסיקלי המופלא רבי יחזקאל לא אסתייע מילתא. ובינתים גליתי למקום של תורה לישיבת בריסק דליטא, ומשם לברלין, דרזדן, וינה ועוד, ולבסוף ירט הדרך ■ לנגדי ועליתי לארץ־ ...
